As people get older the most dramatic changes of aging are visible on the face and neck region.

It has been shown that this aging effect is not limited to the skin but also affecting the fat distribution, muscle positioning and even the shape of the bones that is defining the shape and form of the face as a final result.

These aging effects could also be evaluated as static and dynamic changes. Static changes are usually related with the shape of bones, the amount of soft tissues and fat over that area. The dynamic changes are related with the elasticity of the tissues, their relation and attachments to the surrounding structures and activity and positioning of the muscles of the face and neck.

The peri-orbital region (area around the eyes) including the lower and upper eyelids, the positioning and angle of the eyebrows, the distance between the eyebrows and upper eyelashes, the fullness of this region, presence of lower eyebags, the tightness of the eyelids are the most important components of the perception of an aging face.

FACELIFT HIGHLIGHTS

According to these documented changes, our treatment of an aging face should address these problems by:

  1. Restoration of the “V” shape of the face
    • by increasing the volume in the upper half of the face, (facial fat pad repositioning and fat injection)
    • by increasing the fat volume over the cheek bones (fat transfer)
    • by tightening the laxity of the mid and lower face to make it tight and defined (SMAS plication or partial SMAS removal)
  2. Restoration of the peri-orbital (around the eyes) region
    • By restoring the up-slanting (decreasing the down-slanting) eyes and tightening the eyelids (canthopexy)
    • Eye brow lift (direct temporal lift)
    • Removal of the lower eyebags, release and volume restoration of the tear-troughs (lower blepharoplasty)
    • Removing the excess skin and tightening of the upper eyelids (upper blepharoplasty)
  3. Removal of the excess skin

Without a comprehensive approach the results we get would be suboptimal.

FACELIFT FAQ’s

Which facelift method/methods are preferred?

The long-term analysis of the patients operated with facelift procedures suggests that the safest and the most satisfactory results are achieved by SMAS (superficial musculoaponeurotic system) reshaping, plication or partial excision combined with fat transfer to the cheekbones, upper midface and lower eyelid areas. A limited dissection, plication or partial excision of the SMAS imposes the least risk for the facial nerve and its major branches and yields more predictable results. Skin excisions should be conservative, without any tension.

Does a facelift include neck lift?

A young face is not complete till we also achieve a young neck, which is one of the mainstays of facial rejuvenation and complementary part of facelift surgery, therefore, neck-lift should also be done if it is needed in combination with the facelift surgery through the same incision of the facelift.

How will my eyes be look like after facelift?

Because of the dynamic or static canthopexy (the lifting of the outer eyebrows and eye corners) the patients may have a noticeable up-slanting eyes (Asian-like eyes) in the first 4 weeks, gradually becomes normal. A facelift without eyelid and eyebrow tightening (and hence, an early up-slanting Asian-like eyes) is considered to be unsuccessful and highly predicts an early eyelid revision.

How long should I stay at the hospital?

To prevent any immediate postoperative complications the patients should stay in hospital for blood pressure monitoring.

After 2 nights of hospital stay the patient is discharged from the hospital and called for a control visit 2 days later (first control visit). On the second control visit (6-7 days after surgery), most of the fluffy-bulky dressings are removed.

How long should I rest after facelift?

The swelling of the face reaches a max on the 3rd-4th postoperative days, but still very significant in the first 10 days, therefore, minimum 2 weeks of resting is advised.
